Australia’s leading independent law firm, Corrs Chambers Westgarth, today announced that Costa Koutsis will join Corrs as a partner, based in Sydney.

Costa will join Corrs from Ashurst where he has been the Global Co-Head of Ashurst’s Tax Practice.

Costa Koutsis is an indirect tax specialist with over 20 years of experience advising on stamp duty, GST and land tax in relation to complex transactions. Costa has experience in domestic and cross border mergers and acquisitions, capital raisings, privatisations, restructures and property investment and development transactions.

Commenting on the appointment, Corrs Senior Partner and CEO Gavin MacLaren said: “Costa is very well regarded for his technical ability, strong relationships and extensive experience. Corrs’ tax group has seen considerable growth in recent years and has made a number of senior appointments. This includes Cameron Blackwood, formerly at PwC and Greenwoods & Herbert Smith Freehills, who was appointed Corrs’ Head of Tax in March 2024 and Angelina Lagana, formerly KPMG Law’s Australian and Asia Pacific Leader for Tax Controversy and Dispute Resolution, who was appointed Corrs’ Head of Tax Controversy in October 2024.

Corrs’ recent tax mandates include acting as lead tax advisor to APA Group on the Brigalow Pipeline Project and acting on DAZN Group Limited’s $3.4 billion acquisition of Foxtel.
