Australia’s leading independent law firm, Corrs Chambers Westgarth, has launched Essential ESG, a podcast that breaks down topical issues affecting the rapidly evolving environmental, social and governance (ESG) landscape in Australia and beyond.

According to Corrs’ Head of Responsible Business and ESG, Dr Phoebe Wynn-Pope, Essential ESG was launched in response to the growing complexities surrounding ESG and the lack of suitable resources to help business leaders and the broader community understand and navigate the challenges.

Presented by Corrs and led by Dr Phoebe Wynn-Pope, the podcast features expert guests across all facets of ESG, including subject-matter experts from within Corrs, to assist organisations in their ESG journey.

Commenting on the launch, Dr Wynn-Pope said: “There is mounting pressure on the public and private sector to deliver on commitments to the Paris Agreement and ensure a ‘just transition’. In addition, organisations seeking to attract capital, retain investors and shareholders, and appeal to the next generation of employees and consumers, realise that ESG must remain high on their agenda.

“Yet, in a world where ESG considerations are becoming more relevant and are increasingly complex, keeping abreast of the latest thinking and developments at both a local and global level can be a challenge in itself.

“The aim of Essential ESG is to break down complex topics into bite-sized insights, discuss the many and interrelated risks and opportunities associated with ESG considerations, and highlight the importance of an holistic organisational-wide approach.

“For example, when addressing the ‘E’ (environmental) considerations in the race to net zero, we need to be very mindful of the unintended consequences to ‘S’ (social) and ‘G’ (governance) considerations too, such as the risk of increased exposure modern slavery within the supply chain.”

Corrs’ dedicated Responsible Business and ESG practice, headed up by Dr Phoebe Wynn-Pope, offers integrated expertise across corporate governance, sustainable finance and investment, business and human rights, and sustainability and climate change.
