An employment and labour specialist with more than 27 years’ experience, Anthony advises on all aspects of industrial relations and employment law and represents clients in all of the courts and tribunals where disputes are resolved. 

He has worked across Australia, advising and acting for large employers in the country’s major industries.

With deep experience across the mining and resources sector, Anthony has developed specific expertise in the oil and gas space where he advises leading Australian and international operators.  

Anthony acts for principals and contractors, in both the private and public sectors. He works with clients in enterprise bargaining, change management processes and has significant experience as an advocate in the Fair Work Commission and its predecessors, representing clients in all matters which impact the employment relationship.

Key deals

BHP Billiton Iron Ore

Advising BHP Billiton over a prolonged period on the whole gamut of employment and labour matters which arise in their sizable iron ore operations and supply chains. He has supported BHP in enterprise bargaining and other highly strategic matters at various sites across its vast network of assets.

Major construction projects

Advising numerous companies in the iron ore mining and oil and gas sectors on major construction projects. This has included project owners, EPCM and head contractors and the civil and other contractors engaged on those projects.

INPEX

Advising INPEX in connection with enterprise bargaining and industrial relations matters arising from its world class operations. Anthony has been involved with the Project since its construction and works closely with the INPEX team.

Compass Group – OCTL

Anthony has a relationship with Compass Group in Australia which extends back 20 years. Among many highlights, Anthony and Compass have led the development of the law concerning the ordinary and customary turnover of labour exception to redundancy pay obligations. This has provided significant competitive advantage for Compass.

Woodside

Working closely with the Woodside team in managing adjustments to rostering and operations arising from the restrictions imposed by the COVID 19 pandemic during 2020.

BHP Coal

Working with BHP on a range of legal challenges arising from the deployment of resources from its in-house ‘Operations Services’ capability. This innovative labour strategy is delivering for BHP and its people across the BHP network, but especially in the coal sector.

Chevron

Working with Chevron as union claims and threatened protected industrial action impacted construction of the massive Gorgon Project in 2015. The largest construction project in Australia’s history presented industrial relations challenges on a grand scale.
