Simon has extensive experience advising developer, financial sponsor, financier and government clients on many high profile and innovative projects and transactions in a range of sectors, from renewable energy (including storage and supporting infrastructure) to conventional power, mining and resources, oil and gas, transport and public infrastructure (including waste and water). 

Simon specialises in advising on project contracts associated with these sectors, including construction and procurement documentation, joint venture, shareholder and joint development arrangements, concession and project agreements, supply, transportation and off-take contracts, technology licensing agreements and operations and maintenance and services agreements.

Having worked in the sector since 2004, Simon is a long-standing market leader in clean energy markets (including carbon credit trading and financing), energy and emission regulatory and policy settings, various offtake and commercialisation structures, as well as project development, financing and M&A in the sector.

Roy Hill 1 Iron Ore Project Financing

Advising the ECAs (including JBIC, NEXI, KEXIM, K-SURE and US EXIM) and the commercial lenders on the US$7.2 billion funding for the Roy Hill 1 iron ore project in the Pilbara region of Western Australia – one of the largest integrated mining projects in the world, consisting of the development of a large high-grade iron ore deposit and the construction of the supporting port and rail infrastructure.

Stockyard Hill Wind Farm

Advising Nebras Power in respect of its interest as shareholder in the Stockyard Hill Wind Farm in Victoria, Australia and in connection with all aspects of the project, including governance, acquisition, construction, offtake and financing arrangements.

Snowtown 2 Wind Farm

Advising Palisade Investment Partners on its acquisition and refinancing of the Snowtown 2 Wind Farm from vendor Tilt Renewables. Snowtown 2 is one of Australia’s largest wind farms, located in South Australia, with the transaction worth a reported total enterprise value of A$1.07 billion.

Engie and AGIG Green Hydrogen Project

Advising Engie and AGIG on the structuring and development of its Murray Valley Hydrogen project for the generation of Green Hydrogen to be blended into the existing natural gas network (including advising on arrangements associated with funding from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA), electricity supply, hydrolyser supply, installation and commissioning).
