Jey’s expertise is in the resolution of complex projects disputes. 

He has extensive experience in trial and appellate litigation, commercial arbitration and alternative dispute resolution processes. He has acted for both private and government clients in matters spanning a wide range of industries and sectors. He also has experience providing advice during the life of projects to avoid or minimise the incidence of disputes. 

Jey is a senior fellow at the University of Melbourne, where he teaches Construction Dispute Resolution in the Melbourne Law Masters program. He has been a recipient of the Tom Yuncken Young Construction Lawyer Award, recognising him as one of the most outstanding young construction lawyers in Victoria.

  • Acting for and advising clients on the most significant infrastructure projects in Australia, including the West Gate Tunnel Project, the High Capacity Metro Trains project and EastLink projects in the State of Victoria.

  • Acting for a contractor in a confidential arbitration relating to the design and construction of a Victorian road project.

Energy

  • Acting for major contractors in relation to claims and disputes on significant LNG projects.

  • Representing contractors in proceedings concerning renewable energy projects, including solar and waste to energy projects.

  • Advising a major energy company on gas supply arrangements.

Commercial developments

  • Acting for owners and builders on a range of projects, including mixed-use developments, aged care homes, education facilities and emergency services buildings.

  • Representing a start-up construction company in long-running debt recovery proceedings in connection with a major office and retail development in South Wharf, involving a special leave application to the High Court of Australia.
