Catherine is a commercial litigator specialising in insurance and class action litigation.
Catherine advises and represents clients in connection with a diverse and complex range of insurance products, issues and disputes, and provides ‘front-end’ advice to clients on contractual risk allocation regimes and policy wordings. Catherine also provides advice and representation to clients in connection with claims for indemnity, including major commercial litigation and class actions.
Catherine is a member of Australian Insurance Law Association.
Acted on behalf of IOOF and subsidiary AET in two related class actions before the NSW Supreme Court, which concerned a failed debenture issuer. Litigation involved cross claims against insurers, broker and auditors.
Acted in defence of a class action brought by noteholders of the failed Australian Capital Reserve alleging breaches of the trustee’s statutory duties.
Acting for a client in making a substantial claim under a project specific insurance policy, seeking indemnity for costs and expenses incurred in mitigating loss and damage suffered in connection with a major infrastructure project.
Acted on behalf of a client in making a claim under a contract works policy for losses suffered in connection with a major infrastructure project.
Defended NRMA in litigation brought by its former president, Mr Whitlam, in the Supreme Court of New South Wales, New South Wales Court of Appeal and High Court of Australia.
