Daniel handles complex large-scale litigation. Specialising in commercial, insurance, competition and consumer protection litigation, he also provides a wide range of insurance and risk advice to commercial and Government clients.

Daniel has also acted extensively in enforcement matters for the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission for more than 15 years.

Daniel is a Competition Law Advisory Board Member at the University of Melbourne’s, Melbourne Law School.

Kew Cottages Inquest

Acted for a key participant in the long running inquest into the fires at Kew Cottages.

Fraud Investigations

Acted in a range of fraud investigations including a major fraud at a crematorium.

Plaintiffs against Financial Wisdom Limited

Acted for 230 plaintiffs in a successfully funded litigation against Financial Wisdom in the Supreme Court of Victoria relating to losses suffered arising from representations made by proper authority holders concerning tax effective investments.

Treasurer of Victoria

Acted for the Treasurer in successfully defending proceedings issued by Tabcorp and Tatts in the Supreme Court of Victoria and the High Court of Australia challenging the imposition of a health benefit levy. The proceedings involved administrative law and statutory interpretation issues.

Asahi Holdings (Australia) Pty Ltd

Acted in Federal Court proceedings claiming losses suffered by Asahi following its acquisition of a business that involved alleged inflated financial information in the due diligence materials. The litigation involved complex allegations concerning the way in which private equity sales are structured and the scope of warranty and indemnity insurance. A significant settlement payment was ultimately made to Asahi.

NAB

Acted in defending financial planning based claims in the Supreme Court of Victoria which involved complex allegations as to the calculation of the alleged loss and damage suffered by investors and the role of financial planners.
