Regularly advising a variety of clients from different industries including leading private equity sponsors, James is the “go-to” for all aspects of domestic and cross-border M&A transactions, including public (takeovers and schemes of arrangements) and privately negotiated transactions and ECM transactions, including cross-border listings on ASX.
Dual qualified in Australia and the U.S., James has closed many deals around the world, including in Sydney, New York, London, Milan, Stockholm and Beijing.

- Archer Capital acquisitions Acted for leading private equity manager Archer Capital in its acquisition of a majority interest in the V8 Supercars business (and in a number of other confidential bids).
- Andean Resources $3.8 billion acquisition Acted for Andean in its acquisition by way of a scheme with Canada’s second-biggest gold producer, Goldcorp Inc. This was the largest completed acquisition of an Australian company in 2010 and one of the largest gold mining takeovers of the year globally.
- Staples Inc $1 billion takeover Acted for US-based, multi-national office supply chain Staples Inc in its takeover of Corporate Express Australia.
- Vodafone Group $8 billion merger Lead advisor for Vodafone on its merger with Hutchison and also advised Vodafone on its acquisition of Crazy John’s.
