James is an experienced and responsive commercial lawyer who advises clients in the technology, healthcare, education and government sectors.  His practice is diverse and includes a significant focus on commercial law, contract drafting and negotiation, procurement, competition and consumer law, intellectual property, health law and life sciences.

James acts for innovative private, public and foreign corporations, Queensland’s best universities and their technology transfer offices, franchisors and State and local government bodies.  He regularly publishes on legal developments of relevance to his clients and is actively involved in the firm’s pro bono program. 

James holds a Master of Laws from the Melbourne Law School, The University of Melbourne.

  • Exclusive supply agreement for Specialized Desanders Inc. Local legal advisor for a Canadian firm specialising in patented technology that removes sand deposits from extracted liquefied natural gas. James’ advice assisted SDI to successfully enter the Australian market, resulting in the on-going importation and supply of the technology to the local LNG industry.
  • Waste procurement and contracting advice for Sunshine Coast Council Advised on over $150 million in value of major waste contracts awarded by the Sunshine Coast Council. This long-term project involved a number of procurement phases over more than a year and half. The major contracts included kerbside collection, resource recovery, recyclables processing, concrete crushing, liquid waste and landfill operations.
  • Commercial and regulatory advice for the Queensland Department of Health and its Hospital and Health James is regularly instructed by the Department and a number of its statutory hospital and health services to advise on a range of clinical service arrangements and regulatory compliance.

  • Competition and consumer law advice for Battery World Australia James regularly advises national battery franchise, Battery World Australia, on compliance with the Franchising Code of Conduct and the Australia Consumer Law.
