Corrs clerks develop social media guide for Inspire
Corrs Chambers Westgarth’s Sydney Summer Clerks have presented a comprehensive ‘Social Media Guide for Staff & Volunteers’ to the Inspire Foundation, the organisation behind leading youth mental health service ReachOut.com.
This year, the Summer Clerks were charged with the task of developing a Social Media Guide for Inspire’s staff and volunteers, as part of their pro-bono project. After over two months of research and drafting, the Guide was presented to Inspire’s CEO Jonathan Nicholas and Clinical Partnership Manager, Kerry Buhagiar yesterday.
Corrs’ Summer Clerks provided Inspire with a valuable Guide, reflecting many hours of work on some complex issues. The Guide provides recommendations on best practice for key legal issues including Duty of Care; obligations under the Privacy and Spam Act; and Copyright.
It is crucial to Inspire that ReachOut.com remains relevant and accessible to all young people. Inspire CEO Jonathan Nicholas said, “We want to ensure that Inspire remains world class in helping young people going through tough times. It is our aim to ensure ReachOut.com remains relevant and we continue to push into social media spaces. Technology will continue to play an invaluable role in the support we provide, with many of our young people increasingly accessing services via mobile technologies.”
Mr Nicholas thanked the Summer Clerks for their hard work and reinforced the importance of youth driven projects for Inspire, “The work done by the Corrs Summer Clerks touches many people in the organisation and everyone will be excited to hear about it. The Guide has given us as an organisation, including our staff and volunteers, assurance that what we are doing is in the best interest of the organisation and young people. This project reinforces our enduring belief that young people take the work they do seriously, to deliver tremendous results.”
Corrs’ supervising partner on the project Eugenia Kolivos said, “Social Media is a new frontier for many organisations and for many there are no established guidelines. The Summer Clerks have spent a great deal of time and effort on this pro-bono project and have produced a quality product.”
“The world of social media is complex and of great interest to a range of organisations. It has been very meaningful to do this work for Inspire. We hope this brings great benefit to their staff and volunteers, so they can continue to provide leading support for young people,” Ms Kolivos concluded.
The Clerks said it was great to be involved in a project which was on the cutting edge, where we could push boundaries and work on a relevant and engaging subject matter. It was also immensely rewarding to provide a Guide to support Inspire in providing a space and information for young people to interact.
The team was assisted by a significant contingent of Corrs volunteers who gave their time to organise and supervise the project. Corrs Chambers Westgarth is Inspire’s longest serving corporate partner.
