VOIP
The emergence of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and other next-generation networks (NGN) has prompted examination of the current telecommunications regime and whether it adequately regulates such new technologies. As VoIP becomes a standard telephone service, regulators are currently considering issues such as responsibility for emergency calls, call quality, numbering plans, disability access, interception and privacy.
Corrs has advised a number of clients in relation to VoIP and NGN issues. Our technical consultant, Brian Perkins, has worked for a number of years as a consultant in the telecommunications industry and is currently working with the Australian Communications Industry Forum NGN Framework Options Group to develop a regulatory framework for VoIP and NGN technology. |
