Healthy Cases: Joseph v Health Insurance Commission

04 November 2005

This case concerned disciplinary actions against a medical practitioner under the Professional Service Review Scheme established under the Health Insurance Act 1973 (Cth).  The practitioner was disciplined by the Determining Authority on the basis of an earlier report by the Professional Services Review Committee.  The Committee found that the practitioner had engaged in inappropriate practices by failing to take adequate patient histories, failing to make adequate examinations of patients, failing to make adequate clinical input into services, lacking knowledge of the proper management of a range of conditions, engaging in the prescription of inappropriate medication, rendering home visits that were not medically necessary, and keeping medical records that were deficient in essential clinical information.
