IceTV wins High Court appeal against Nine Network04 May 2009
IceTV, a provider of electronic program guides for personal video recorders, has won its appeal to the High Court against the Nine Network. Nine claimed that IceTV’s electronic program guide infringed copyright in its weekly program schedule. In a decision which has significance for copyright in databases and compilations generally, the High Court unanimously overturned the decision of the Full Court of the Federal Court, finding that IceTV did not infringe the copyright in Nine’s “Weekly Schedules” by reproducing the time and title information for various television programs.
