The National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Act 2007 (Cth) (NGER Act) and the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Regulations 2008 (Cth) (NGER Regulations) are the key components of the Commonwealth Government’s National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting System (NGERS). As an integral part of the Commonwealth Government’s climate change policy, the NGERS aims to provide a single, mandatory national reporting framework for Australian corporations to register and report their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and their energy production and consumption.
