Financiers receiving subsidies or other commissions from retail suppliers should take note of the recent decision of the Victorian Supreme Court in the case of Australian Finance Direct Limited v Director of Consumer Affairs. "No interest" and "low interest" finance deals are widely publicised by retailer suppliers seeking to promote sales. Usually the financiers derive or supplement their income on such finance through subsidies from the retail suppliers.
