Corrs Partner appointed President of the Victorian Arts Centre Trust

23 June 2009

Corrs Partner Janet Whiting has been appointed as the new President of the Victorian Arts Centre Trust.

Victorian Arts Minister Lynne Kosky, who announced the appointment, said Janet brought extensive experience and robust strategic and analytical skills to the helm of Australia’s leading performing arts institution.

“The Arts Centre is a national leader in the performing arts and one of Melbourne’s most defining landmarks. Ms Whiting’s professional background, corporate governance experience and extensive involvement across the arts, cultural and tourism sectors, will lead the Arts Centre through the important next stage of its development,” Ms Kosky said.

The Victorian Arts Centre Trust oversees Melbourne’s Arts Centre and its venues and collections, including the Theatres Building, Hamer Hall and the Sidney Myer Music Bowl, which attract around 2.5 million visitors each year.

Ms Kosky said Janet's appointment comes at an exciting time for the Arts Centre with the $128.5 million redevelopment of Hamer Hall due to commence in 2010.

Janet's current roles include Deputy Chairman of the Victorian Major Events Company and a Director of the Royal Women's Hospital. She has also served as Vice President of the Melbourne International Arts Festival, Chairman of the Harold Mitchell Foundation, and as a Director of the L’Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival, State Film Centre Council of Victoria, Melbourne International Film Festival and St Martins Youth Arts Centre.

Janet has been appointed until March 2011.
