Corporate Coup – top M&A partner to join Corrs
21 August 2008
Braddon Jolley, one of Australia's leading mergers and acquisitions lawyers, has joined Corrs’ corporate M&A team from Freehills.
The appointment reinforces a formidable corporate M&A team, which now includes four members of the Takeovers Panel – Braddon joining forces with Teresa Handicott (ALB Australian Dealmaker of the Year 2008), Andrew Lumsden (currently advising Straits on their $1.5 billion demerger) and Byron Koster (who recently joined the firm from Blake Dawson and is currently acting on Challenger Infrastructure Fund in a takeover defence role).
Corrs expects to announce further appointments in the next few weeks.
Braddon specialises in complex and/or hostile transactions and has been involved in many of the largest, most complex and innovative transactions in the Australian M&A market. They include advising Rinker on the $17.5 billion hostile takeover by CEMEX (the biggest takeover in Australian corporate history), Fairfax Media on its $9 billion merger with Rural Press, and Promina on its $7.87 billion merger with Suncorp Metway.
He deals with a broad range of corporate and securities law issues for public listed companies including takeovers, schemes of arrangements and capital reductions, and also with equity raisings and significant non-public M&A transactions.
Braddon was instrumental in introducing pre-bid arrangements to the Australian market and pioneered the pre-acceptance agreement and bear hug conditions.
Braddon is acknowledged as one of Australia's leading mergers and acquisitions lawyers by Legal Guides including Chambers Global, Asia Pacific Legal 500, Best Lawyers, The International Who’s Who of Mergers & Acquisitions Lawyers and PLC Which Lawyer.
In welcoming him to Corrs, CEO John Denton said ”Braddon is a valuable addition to an exceptionally strong and innovative team that has the expertise and experience to tackle the really tough transactions in complex business environments.”
