Breen’s special areas of expertise include employment law, principal/contractor arrangements, workplace relations law (including AWAs and collective bargaining), industrial action, transmission of business and occupational health and safety.

Breen joined Corrs industrial relations practice in 1997. Immediately before that, he was Professor of Law and Legal Studies at LaTrobe University. Since June 1998 Breen has been a Professorial Fellow in the Faculty of Law at The University of Melbourne. Breen led the National Workplace Relations practice group from June 2001 to June 2003.

Breen is co-author of several texts on Australian labour law, and has published extensively in the fields of labour law and labour relations. He has been a member of various public bodies, including the Administrative Review Council, the Distribution of Powers Committee of the Constitutional Commission and the Victorian Occupational Health and Safety Commission. He has also acted as consultant to governments, employer organisations, unions and corporations both in Australia and overseas.
